Ragtime Institute
The Third Annual Ragtime Institute is sponsored jointly by the Rocky
Mountain Ragtime Festival and the American Music Research Center. It
will be held Monday-Wednesday, July 22-24, 2002 at the Imig
Music Building, College
of Music, on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder.
Classes, lessons, and lectures on ragtime music are designed to help
younger musicians establish a foothold in the art, as well as to help
more experienced performers broaden their knowledge and background in
the medium. (It is also possible to simply "observe" the Institute
sessions, for a reduced fee, without participating, and learn a lot
about playing ragtime.) Classes and lectures will cover topics such as
form, style, and performance practice. Resources from the College of
Music's American Research Center will be available, and techniques for
research will be presented. Institute instructors include Frank
French, William Kearns, Scott Kirby, and David Thomas Roberts.
To receive a registration form, please send inquiries to the address below. Address any questions to Scott
Kirby, the Institute Director, at (208) 263-6867.
